Dr.D. Nageshwara Reddy
Dr. D. Nageshwar Reddy, is a Visiting Professor at the most prestigious universities in the world including Europe, Japan and USA. Dr. Reddy has started his career in the government and eventually started Asian Institute of Gastroenterology in pursuit of creating a globally recognized center for excellence in gastroenterology. Dr. Reddy serves as a Member of the Advisory Board at Aizant Drug Research Solutions Pvt. Ltd. Dr. Reddy is an Editorial Board Member of international journal of digestive endoscopy and International Advisory Board of Japanese society of G.I. endoscopy. In addition to his clinical achievements, Dr. Reddy is also involved in conducting research and published papers in the national and international journals of repute. Dr. Reddy authored several books on G.I. endoscopy and organized several national and international endoscopy workshops. Dr. Reddy is widely recognized as the eminent Gastroenterologist by his peers across the globe and is one of the authorities in the world in therapeutic endoscopy. Dr. Reddy has received many national and international awards. Dr. Reddy’s efforts, dedication and contribution to the field of gastroenterology resulted in him being awarded the Padma Shri by the Indian government in 2001. Some of the other awards to name a few include the Honorary Member of American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (2004), Fellow of Royal College of Medicine (Ireland) in 2003 (FRCP), Francisco Roman award for the lifetime achievement in medicine from Philippine society of gastroenterology in Manila (2002), Vidyaratna award (1996), American biographical award for outstanding gastroenterologist with contribution to world literature, Elsa Singapore endoscopic society award (1993) and Japanese endoscopic research award (1991). Dr. Reddy graduated from Kurnool medical college, Kurnool (Andhra Pradesh) with nine gold medals. He obtained his MD in General Medicine from Madras University, Madras and D.M. in Gastroenterology from GIPMER, Chandigarh in India.
Dr.Tehemton Erach Udwadia
Tehemton Erach Udwadia (born 15 July 1934) is an Indian surgeon and gastroenterologist, considered by many as the father of laparoscopic surgery in India. He is a general surgeon at two Mumbai hospitals, Breach Candy Hospital and Hinduja Hospital and is the founder president of the Indian Association of Gastrointestinal Endo-Surgeons. The Government of India awarded him the third highest civilian honour of the Padma Bhushan in 2017 and the fourth highest civilian honour of the Padma Shri, in 2006, for his contributions to Indian medicine.Born in a family originating from Udwada to Erach Rustomji and Perin Erach on 15 July 1934 in Mumbai,[citation needed] the capital city of the western Indian state of Maharashtra, Udwadia did his early education at St. Mary’s School, Mumbai and Wilson College, Mumbai.He graduated in medicine from Mumbai University and started his career as a research fellow at the King Edward Memorial Hospital and Seth Gordhandas Sunderdas Medical College in 1958 where he stayed till 1962. During this period, he studied for the post graduate degree (MS) at the same institution, securing it in 1960. Moving to Grant Medical College and Sir Jamshedjee Jeejeebhoy Group of Hospitals in 1963, he worked there till 1994 till his superannuation and continued his association with the institution as an Emeritus Professor. In between, he also worked as a Hunterian Professor of the Royal College of Surgeons of England during 1984–85 and Sir James Ross Lecturer at the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 1992.Udwadia is the founder president of the Indian Association of Gastrointestinal Endo-Surgeons and presided over the association from 1993 to 1998. He has served as the president of the Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy of India, Association of Surgeons of India and the Society of Endoscopic and Laparoscopic Surgeons of Asia. He has been the president of the Indian chapter and the World body of the International College of Surgeons.He has published over 90 articles in peer reviewed journals and is the author of two books, Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy and Laparoscopic Surgery in Developing Countries.Udwadia received the SAGES Millennium Award from the Society of American Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Surgeons in 2000. The same year, he was awarded the Dr. B. C. Roy Award, the highest Indian award in the medical category, from the Medical Council of India. The Indian Association of Gastrointestinal Endo-Surgeons awarded him the Lifetime Achievement Award in 2004. In 2006 he was awarded the civilian award of the Padma Shri from the Government of India.

Dr.Amit Prabhakar Maydeo
Dr. Amit Prabhakar Maydeo, is an Indian Gastroenterologist and endoscopy expert, known for his pioneering efforts on therapeutic endoscopy and endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP).He was honoured by the Government of India, in 2013, by bestowing on him the Padma Shri, the fourth highest civilian award, for his contributions to the fields of medicine and medical education.
Amit Prabhakar Maydeo was born in a family with meagre financial resources in Girgaon, a southern Mumbai area in the western Indian state of Maharashtra. After graduating in medicine, his initial specialization was in surgery, but an internship at a German Hospital introduced him to the minimally invasive technique of endoscopy.
Maydeo is credited with the establishment of the first endoscopic centre in India, Baldota Institute of Digestive Sciences, considered as the most modern gastroenterology and endoscopic centre in India where he works in the capacity of the Director. Reports credit him with introducing the concept of endoscopy in India and starting the first educational course on the topic.[6] He is also reported to have done path breaking work on therapeutic endoscopy and endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP).His researches have also been quoted to have developed new protocols in the treatment of pancreatic and common bile duct (CBD) stones. Amit Maydeo, a recipient of the civilian award of Padma Shri, lives along the Bhulabhai Desai Road, popularly known as Breach Candy, in Mumbai.
Dr.Thoguluva Shesadri Chandrasekar
Thoguluva Shesadri Chandrasekar (born 1956) is an Indian gastroenterologist and the founder chairman of Medindia Hospitals, a healthcare facility based in Chennai. He is credited with the performance of over 23,000 endoscopy proceduresand is known for the Braille chart on personal hygiene he prepared in 2015 for the visually impaired people.] The Government of India awarded him the fourth highest civilian honour of the Padma Shri, in 2016, for his contributions to medicine. T. S. Chandrasekar, born on 14 July 1956, graduated in medicine in 1977 from Madurai Medical College winning the gold medal for the best outgoing student and followed it up with the degrees of MD and DM from Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, Chandigarh.He started his career as a member of faculty at Coimbatore Medical College where he established the department of medical gastroenterology.Later, he founded Medindia Hospitals at Nungambakkam which has since grown to become a super-specialty healthcare centre for gastro-intestinal diseases. Chandrasekar is the founder of Medindia Charitable Trust, which is involved in healthcare services to the poor people through free medical camps, health awareness programs, and concessional treatment. He is a former president of the Society of GastroIntestinal Endoscopy of India (2007–08) where he sits in the advisory board of its journal. The incumbent national president of the Indian Society of Gastroenterology, he is credited with the performance of over 23000 endoscopy procedures. He prepared a braille chart for personal hygiene in 2015, for use by the visually impaired people and has prepared fourteen CD-ROMs for teaching endoscopic surgical procedures. He is one of the pioneers of Peroral Endoscopic Myotomy in India, an endoscopic surgical technique involving the insertion of a knife into the oesophagus to remove the blockages in the food pipe. He has published several articles on the subject, many of them published in international referred journals. He is a recipient of the Best Doctor Award of the Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University and serves as an adjunct professor at the university. The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow honored him with their fellowship in 2009 and the Government of India awarded him the civilian honor of the Padma Shri in 2016.
Dr.Randhir Sud
Dr. Randhir Sud, an Indian gastroenterologist and the Chairman of the Medanta Institute of Digestive and Hepatobiliary Sciences, is known to be one of the pioneers of Gastro Intestinal oncology in India. He is a former co-chairman of the department of gastroenterology at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, New Delhi.
Sud graduated in medicine (MBBS) from the Government Medical College, Amritsar in 1977 and started his career as a junior resident doctor at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Delhi in 1979. While working, he continued his studies at AIIMS to secure an MD in 1981 and followed it up with a DM in gastroenterology in 1983.He worked at AIIMS till 1985 and moved to Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, Delhi, where he worked for 25 years till his move to Medanta in 2010. In between, he also served as a visiting professor at the Harvard Medical School, Boston in 1999, at the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB), Galveston, Texas and the University of Alabama, Birmingham. He is also an examiner for the Diplomate of National Board examinations in Gastroenterology of the National Board of Examinations. The Government of India awarded him the fourth highest civilian honour of the Padma Shri, in 2008, for his contributions to medicine.
